ANZAC DAY CEREMONY
Recently, the Anzac Day ceremony was held at Katoomba high school and was conducted by students from year 7 to year 12. Students read letters from soldiers and civilians from each of our major wars to help connect the school audience with the experiences of wartime. Many thanks to the parents and community members who were involved. Mrs Pam Stiles donated a number of sources including family letters and postcards which were used in the ceremony. Many thanks to her for the contribution. Some of these sources can be seen below. Sources such as these and others are being used by our students to conduct research into World War One for their year 9 assessment task. One of the aims of the task is to connect students in a meaningful way to the experiences of those who served Australia.
LETTERS FROM THE FRONT
YEAR 7 ENRICHMENT EXCURSION TO THE GULLY KATOOMBA.
Understanding Aboriginal culture in a meaningful way is the key to deeper learning in Australian History and Geography. With this in mind, students in 7M were enthralled by stories from Gary Rule as students were immersed in Aboriginal culture, while Aaron McDonald explained the great changes that have been made in recent times to help preserve the History. New signs document the history of the Gully while walkways provide public access.
